Cottage Addition
This cottage addition took the form of a living room opening to a sheltered deck. The existing house was a maze of tiny rooms which we opened to become a series of spaces. We designed the living room addition as a distinct element but in the same language as the existing cottage. The roof of the new addition overhangs the exterior deck creating an outdoor space that is both cloistered yet open to the view of an adjacent pond. A guest bedroom and private bath open to a tiny private deck in the junction between the old cottage and the addition. The brick chimney of the new fireplace defines this space, and creates an axis at the center of the old and new structures.
